How To Save Money When Dining Out

dining-out

The festive season is around the corner and inevitably, you get more requests for meet-ups than usual. Coupled with the receipt of your year-end bonus, the temptation to splurge on sumptuous Yuletide feasts at restaurants with your loved ones is indeed great. As such, you may find yourselves dangerously close to busting your waistline as well as your monthly budget. Fret not, as Heartland Boy has several tips on how you can save money when dining out during this festive period. For those who are more concerned about your calorie intake, look no further to Heartland Girl’s blog since that is her forte. As a true blue heartlander, Heartland Boy is better placed to find you the best dining deals that will help you spend within your monthly expenses even when eating out.

1. Save Money When Dining Out With Eatigo

Eatigo is a restaurant booking service that is available online as well as on mobile applications. It offers dining deals with discounts ranging from 10% to 50% during off-peak hours in order to help restaurants fill tables that would otherwise have been empty. As the photo below illustrates, many brand-name restaurants have already started coming on board. Eatigo is extremely user-friendly because the restaurants are sorted according to cuisine as well as location. Typically, the discount applies to all items on the menu but it is best that you check with the restaurant before making your orders.

Based on personal experience, Heartland Boy has saved easily over hundreds of dollars by making his restaurant reservations on Eatigo. All he has to do is to tweak his lunch time to 11.30am or dinner time to 5.30pm to dine at off-peak hours. This is a small adjustment to his dining habits but a big saving to his monthly expenses.

What is even more unbelievable is that Eatigo is totally FREE. It does not charge any fee unlike the Entertainer. Currently, Eatigo is running a promotion whereby users will receive $25 worth of CapitaVoucher if the user makes a minimum of 5 bookings within December. Of course, Heartland Boy is looking to accomplish this feat! On other occasions, there will also be promotion codes for you to get these Capitamall vouchers! Users of Eatigo will also be able to save money while dining out on vacation in Thailand, Hong Kong and Malaysia too! As you may have guessed from this review, you can count Heartland Boy as a very big fan of Eatigo!

2. Save Money When Dining Out With The Entertainer

The Entertainer is an application that allows paid users to enjoy one for one dining deals on main menu items at participating restaurants. For restaurants that specialize in buffet, that means you can enjoy a buffet for 2 pax but for the price of one! For instance, the weekend dinner buffet at Hotel Jen costs $65++ per pax. By using The Entertainer (get it for free if you are a HSBC Credit Card customer), you immediately save $65! It is also very user-friendly and you simply redeem the electronic coupon in front of the waiter to enjoy the huge discount.

Users would be pleased to learn that The Entertainer also gives you amazing deals on hotels, spa as well as leisure attractions. You may like to read how Heartland Boy saved money on hotel accommodation using The Entertainer.

3. Use Credit Cards That Reward You For Dining

Even after enjoying substantial savings from Eatigo and The Entertainer, Heartland Boy would choose to pay the final bill using credit cards. That is another way to save even more money while eating out. For now, he is still using his OCBC 365 credit card to get 6% cashback for weekend dining. A notable mention would be CIMB’s Visa Signature credit card which gives you a tantalizing 10% cashback when you wine and dine. However, Heartland Boy is still sticking to OCBC 365 credit card at the moment as it works in tandem with his OCBC 360 savings account.

4. Food Delivery Services On Shopback

As an afterthought, Heartland Boy realized that there are some who simply prefer to stay at home to avoid the crowded restaurants. For this group of people, they can try food delivery services such as UberEats or FoodPanda (receive $8 off your first purchase using this sign-up link). For instance, Heartland Boy chanced upon this insane value for money promotion that Shopback was running this week. Pay $2.99 for a $20 UberEats voucher and get $2.99 cashback on Shopback immediately.

In other words, Shopback is literally giving these UberEATS vouchers away for FREE! If you are on their subscription list, you will hear first-hand about promotions such as these! For instance, Heartland Boy thinks that there will be another crazy promotion on Boxing Day. Therefore, you may want to quickly sign up for Shopback using Heartland Boy’s promo code to get an instant $5 cashback.

Conclusion

Typically, Heartland Boy finds it extremely difficult to control his budget during December. However, he has managed to trim some dining expenses by using a combination of Eatigo, Entertainer and paying his final bills with credit cards that reward him for dining out.

Thanks for sharing such great tips. I have used entertainer app for 1 for 1 deals. A pity 2017 they have less restaurant choices.

I have not tried eatigo yet.
