DBS Yuu Card 18% Cashback Promotion Becomes Permanent – Why You Should Apply

dbs-yuu-card

When the DBS yuu card was first introduced in 2022, the only thing I remembered was the jingle by Gurmit Singh that played constantly on loop across all DFI stores. If you are willing to look past this annoyance like I did, you would notice that the card benefits are quite compelling especially with the 18% cashback awarded on participating yuu merchants. This 18% cashback, which comprised of a 13% bonus cashback, was initially planned to be a time-limited promotion to accompany its launch. Not only has this benefit been made permanent, DBS cards team has also been working overtime to add more merchants on board and sweeten its sign-up promotion. This makes the DBS yuu Credit Card my favourite cashback card of all time (ever since I started collecting them) and what I think is probably the best cashback card in Singapore at this moment hands down. Let me explain why you should apply for the DBS yuu Card to milk all its benefits.

1) 18% Cash Rebates Promotion Becomes Permanent

Good news to all DBS yuu card holders as they have decided to extend the bonus cash rebates promotion to make it a permanent feature. When the bonus cash rebate (13%) is added to the base cash rebate (5%), it adds up to a very attractive 18% cash rebate which can be earned at participating yuu merchants as shown in Diagram 1.

As far as I am aware, no other cashback credit card in Singapore offers 18% cash rebate, even on selected categories and merchants! This represents outstanding value and card holders should continue to make hay while the sun shines.

Before we get all too delirious, do note that the 13% bonus cash rebate is capped at $78 per calendar month and will only be credited if a minimum monthly spend of $600 is met. Let me emphasize that this $600 need not have to be made at participating yuu merchants to count towards the monthly spend. It can comprise a mix of both yuu and non yuu merchants.

If you are lazy to do the math, the sweet spot is spending exactly and coincidentally, $600 at participating yuu merchants to maximise the cash rebate potential of the DBS yuu credit card. That’s the most optimal scenario, one which has been made easier with the inclusion of new yuu merchants (see points 2 and 3 below). These additions really have me grinning ear to ear and hear me out on how to maximise them to the fullest.

2) foodpanda added as a new yuu merchant

dbs-yuu-foodpanda-infographic

Diagram 2: Foodpanda added as a participating yuu merchant (Source: DBS)

Foodpanda came onto the yuu-niverse (yes, yet another heart-cringing attempt by their marketing team) in September 2023 which is a move that I personally welcome because I do make plenty of purchases via Foodpanda. If you see a pattern emerging by now, I am clearly one who is willing to ignore these marketing gimmicks while not losing sight of the end goal.

Let me show you multiple ways on how to triple-stack your savings, but first get yourself a 6-month pandapro subscription plan at just $3 with the promo code “DBSYUUPRO3” on the foodpanda app. It is a super value for money subscription plan and you may break even from just your first purchase. Note that this promo code refreshes from time to time so be patient and wait for it to be valid again because its last validity was 14 Jan 2024. Alternatively, you can try the code “DBSPROPACK” which is valid till 31 March 2024.

a)Foodpanda Pick-up

It is a misconception that all merchants heavily inflate the prices of their items on delivery platforms to account for the commissions payable. If you pay close attention, some merchants offer discounts such that it becomes cheaper to use “Pick Up” than to queue physically and pay the full price in the retail store. Let me show you some positive demonstrations.

Diagram 3: Cost of BreadTalk on Foodpanda Pick-Up

I noticed that BreadTalk is one of the merchants that does not increase their prices on Foodpanda. For instance, this kaya marble retails for $3.60 in store. With a Foodpanda pro subscription and using its Pick-Up service, I paid $3.01 as shown in Diagram 1. That is because pandapro subscribers receive a default 10% off prices on its platform when using the Pick-Up service. Thereafter, proceed to add the usual Foodpanda vouchers to extract even more savings. In this case, I used a 10% off pick up voucher to stack my savings to arrive at a net price of $3.01 that was charged to my DBS yuu Card. But that is not all as the price reflected here was before the 18% cashback. All in, my nett price was $2.46 which was a hefty 31% savings compared to someone who chose to pay using cash in the store. Not convinced yet, let me show you that this is not limited to just the shops in fancy shopping malls.

Diagram 4: Cost of wanton mee at Rong Liang Ge on Foodpanda Pick-Up

The wanton noodles at this coffee shop retails for $4 for packaging. Its prices are inflated to $4.50 on the Foodpanda app. Not to worry, because as a Foodpanda pro subscriber and using my DBS yuu Card, I paid just $2.90 after cashback. Maybe can considering adding this on the Great Budget Meal Hunt. As a further tip, look out for the tag “Same price in store” to be assured that you “confirm” save when using the pick-up service.

b) Foodpanda Dine-In
kaeden-cafe-foodpanda-dine-in-discount

Diagram 5: Kaeden Café paid using Dine-in discount on Foodpanda

Another feature that I use on a less regular basis is the Dine-in function on Foodpanda. Diagram 5 shows me dining at Kaeden Café and paying using Foodpanda’s dine-in offers. Since everything is paid on the Foodpanda app, the discount I enjoy is approximately 35% (20% off gross price + 18% yuu cashback on nett bill) Not as spectacular as HSBC Entertainer’s 1 for 1 mains, but not insignificant either. Unfortunately, heresay that dine-in discounts may be phased out shortly.

I chose to explain the “Pick Up” and “Dine-In” examples because I feel that the awareness of these services is quite low. There are many more examples and I consistently spend a couple of hundreds per month on Foodpanda just by using a combination of Pick-Up, Dine-In, Food deliveries as well as pandamart and shops. With 18% cashback when paying with the DBS yuu Card, foodpanda has been my go-to app for food and groceries ever since. Before you get too excited and start ordering on foodpanda right away, don’t forget to add your yuu ID to the foodpanda app first. This can be done under the tab “yuu Rewards Club” on the foodpanda app.

Of course, if you are not a foodpanda customer yet, you can use my referral code to sign up to receive $25 vouchers.

3) Gojek added as a new yuu merchant

dbs-yuu-gojek-infographic

Diagram 6: Gojek added as a participating yuu merchant (Source: DBS)

Since I do not own a car, I do use private hire vehicles such as Grab and Gojek especially if the destination is not accessible via public transport. I always compare the prices between Grab and Gojek before deciding which to go with. Now that I know I enjoy 18% cash rebate with Gojek courtesy of the DBS yuu card, the decision may swing towards Gojek more frequently. For a fair comparison, I also note that I enjoy 8.3% cashback on the Grab platform when paying with my UOB One Card so the nett difference for easy comparison is just 10%.

With the addition of foodpanda and Gojek into the yuu-niverse, it has given me greater ease to reach the $600 minimum spend exclusively on yuu merchant partners. This way, I really milk the DBS yuu card for all its worth. How much? See Diagram 7 which is almost 2 months of yuu points stored in my account.

Apply DBS yuu Card and receive up to $150 cashback

As I have explained in my previous review of the DBS yuu Card, it supports 2 payment gateways – Visa and American Express. Depending of the payment gateway chosen, here’s what you will receive:

dbs-yuu-card-singsaver-sign-up-promotion-388cash

Diagram 8: Cashback rewards if you sign up for a DBS yuu Card

To receive the sign-up cash rewards, the only condition to fulfil is that cardmembers must charge $800 within 30 days of card approval after punching in the promo code 388CASH, which should not be too difficult given the new yuu merchants recently onboarded. You can also spend it on non-yuu merchants.

If you are also enticed by the 18% cashback and are already a customer of these yuu merchants, quickly get on board the DBS yuu Card bandwagon by signing up with my referral links below!

DBS yuu Card (AMEX)

Finally, as a last tip, choosing the Visa card will give you a higher chance to accumulate monthly spend of $600 on the card since it is accepted by all merchants who offer contactless payment mode. Don’t be swayed by the difference in the sign-up offer for existing cardmembers as that is equivalent to missing the forest for the trees.
