$350 Sign-Up Bonus For Citibank’s New Citi Cashback+ Credit Card

citi-mastercard-cashback+

Ever since Standard Chartered Bank pioneered the no-frills cashback credit card which has no cashback cap and no minimum spending required, HSBC and Maybank have each jumped onto the bandwagon over the years. This week, Citibank finally joined the ranks and launched the spanking new Citi Cashback+ Credit Card. It has definitely been some time since a new cashback credit card was introduced in Singapore. Thankfully, Heartland Boy thinks it has been well worth the wait. That is because with the ongoing SingSaver promotion, successful applicants would receive $200 cash sign-up bonus by signing up for Citibank’s new Cashback+ Credit Card (Note that the $350 deal stated in the headline was only limited to a small window in Feb 2020). Besides the attractive ongoing promotion, Heartland Boy has reviewed the Citi Cashback+ Credit Card and thinks it is a pretty dependable cashback credit card to have in your wallet at all times.

Product Features of Citi Cashback+ Credit Card

First and foremost, the new Citi Cashback+ Credit Card should not be confused with the existing Citi Cashback Credit Card. They might only be separated with a mathematical operator, + ,  but Heartland Boy can assure you that they are worlds apart. Here are the product features of the Citi Cashback+ Credit Card.

1.1.6% Cashback on Eligible Spend

Cardmembers of the Citi Cashback+ Credit Card receive 1.6% cashback on all eligible spend. Because it applies on such a wide range of retail purchases, it provides a flat cashback rate that does not vary unlike the existing Citi Cashback Credit Card. Do also take note that the following transactions (pretty standard exclusions in Heartland Boy’s opinion) shown in Diagram 1 will not be eligible for the cashback:

citi-cashback-card-eligible-retail-spend-exclusion

Diagram 1: Transactions not eligible for cashback on the Citi Cashback+ Card

By virtue of this cashback rate, it leapfrogs the Standard Chartered Unlimited Cashback Credit Card to be amongst the best in this category (sharing joint top position with the Maybank FC Barcelona Card). That is why Heartland Boy considers it a solid, reliable cash back credit card to have in your wallet/purse.

2. No Minimum Spend Required

The beauty of such no-frills credit card is that no minimum spending per month is required to earn the cashback. Therefore, no need for tedious calculating of your credit card spend nor coerced impulse purchases to meet the minimum spend each month. With the Citi Cashback+ credit card, you can be certain that you are saving 1.6% of your spending (effectively acts as a rebate) whenever you tap or swipe it while making payment.

3. No Limit To How Much Cashback You Can Earn

Another product feature much appreciated is that there is no limit to how much cashback you can earn in any month. Therefore, even if you have a big-ticket item purchase, you no longer need to worry that any part of the spending would not be applicable for cashback. The sky is truly the limit for the Citi Cashback+ credit card.

4. Cashback Does Not Expire

Cashback earned does not expire (unlike miles) and card holders can simply log in to the Citi Mobile App to check their cashback balance shown in Diagram 2.

Diagram 2: Cardmembers can track their cashback balance on the Citi Mobile App

Cashback accumulated under the Citi Cashback+ Card can also be redeemed instantly via SMS to help offset your credit card bills. In addition, the basic annual fee of $192.60 is waived in the first year and the salary/income requirements to apply for the Citi Cashback+ credit card is relatively low.

Receive $200 Sign-Up Bonus From SingSaver!

While product features 1-4 are pretty standard under the category of no-frills cashback cards, the deal gets sweeter because of an ongoing exclusive promotion between SingSaver and Citibank. New to bank customers* who sent in their application and received the bank’s approval will receive $200 cash from SingSaver! Note that existing Citibank customers would only enjoy $30 cash gift though.

citi-mastercard-cashback+Note that the sign-up bonus gift of $200 would be fulfilled and paid to the applicant from SingSaver via PayNow from the mobile number provided during application.

*New to bank customers are those who do not have an existing Citibank credit card and did not previously have a Citibank credit card that was terminated/closed in the last 12 months.

SingSaver Is Offering The Best Promotion Right Now

Note that there is a concurrent promotion from the Bank itself that is mutually exclusive with SingSaver’s ongoing promotion. Heartland Boy has studied the terms and conditions of both promotions and concluded that the SingSaver promotion is far superior to Citibank’s own promotion. To qualify for SingSaver’s sign up bonus, one only need to apply within the month of March. There is no need for any spending required to receive the cash gift of $200.

On the other hand, under Citibank’s own welcome offer, the bonus cashback rate is only applicable to eligible retail purchases made within the first 3 full calendar months after the card is approved. Even then, the bonus cashback rate of 2.9% is capped to the first $5,000 of eligible spend. This effectively curb the bank’s welcome offer at a maximum of $145, which is clearly worse off by $65 when compared to SingSaver’s promotion that requires no spending at all!

If you have decided that the new Citi Cashback+ Credit Card is worth having in your stable of credit cards, do apply for it via SingSaver (using my affiliate link) to qualify for better sign-up bonuses! Do remember to complete the SingSaver’s Rewards Redemption form by providing your unique 12-digit alphanumeric reference number provided by Citibank to be eligible for your cash gift!

If you prefer other cash back credit cards from Citibank, you may apply for the Citibank SMRT Credit Card or the Citibank Cash Back Card. If you are looking to obtain a personal loan instead, here’s the link from Citibank.

*SingSaver is an affiliate partner of Heartland Boy and he earns a small fee for every successful referral. Note that the $350 promo was only for Feb 2020.

      Hi Wil,

Supplementary card members are considered new to bank clients.

Applicants who already have an existing Citibank Credit card as a main member is considered an existing bank customer. Hope this clarifies.

So is it safe to say that the only difference between this card and the Standard Chartered Unlimited Cashback is the additional 0.1%? I literally JUST got the SC card approved haha.

      Hi Shan,

Yes, i would think so. I cancelled my SCB Unlimited Card recently though. It was good while it lasted. You may consider applying for this as well, and cancel your SCB Unlimited 6 months later for no penalty.

      Hi Sherry,

Based on the definition, you are an existing customer because you hold a Citibank credit card at time of application.

I applied for this Citibank card back in Feb 2020. I was told that the processing time takes around 60 – 90 days… Wait, wait and wait… Till June 2020, called Citibank, they ask me to check with Singsaver, when I tried to called Singsaver, they told me that this is not their issue and ask me to check back with the bank… Here I am in July 2020, with little to no money and still waiting for my $350… Wake up Singsaver and Citibank

      Hi Samantha,

That’s fine. In your case, you should be considered a new to bank customer since your last card was cancelled years ago
