A Suitable Valentine’s Day Gift

A Suitable Valentine's Day GiftWhen it comes to a suitable Valentine’s Day gift, Heartland Girl has certain OB markers. A HDB BTO surprise application on Valentine’s Day is a uniquely Singapore phenomenon. However, she would certainly disapprove of any guy who bids for a HDB BTO without first proposing to the girl. This simply drains all the romance out of the relationship. Therefore, any guy harbouring such thoughts for the upcoming February HDB BTO sales launch this Valentine Day would do well to take heed.

Having been together for several years, it gets increasingly difficult to find a suitable Valentine’s Day gift for Heartland Girl. However, Heartland Boy hit the jackpot at the last Vday. Heartland Boy was tricked into gave Heartland Girl a supplementary ANZ Optimum World MasterCard last Valentine’s Day. It was a Valentine’s Day gift idea that was greeted with a roar of approval. A million kisses landed at Heartland Boy’s cheek while a million bucks landed on Heartland Girl’s feet.

Drawing inspiration from this, Heartland Boy would like to introduce a credit card promotion campaign by SingSaver- a credit card and personal loan comparison website. A total of 6 credit cards have been curated by the folks from SingSaver to ensure that you get the best bang for your buck. If you apply successfully for any of the 6 credit cards via SingSaver, you will be rewarded with up to $100 gift vouchers by Starbucks or NTUC. This is on top of the promotion campaigns run independently by the banks in Singapore. These are excellent 2017 Valentine’s Day gift ideas for him or her!

Personally, Heartland Boy is the holder of 2 such credit cards. These are predominantly cashback-heavy credit cards that are utilised for specific expenditures. He shall relate in greater detail about his experience and satisfaction from using these 2 credit cards.

1.ANZ Optimum World MasterCard

Heartland Boy utilises the ANZ Optimum Card heavily. Its greatest feature is that it provides 5% cashback for your selected category (Dining & Leisure, Travel, Shopping, Groceries). Non-selected categories earn 1% cashback though. After comparing credit cards extensively online, Heartland Boy found this to be the credit card that gives him the highest cashback for his weekly Jakarta-Singapore flights. For instance, he collects about 7 Optimum$ from the $140 that he pays to the budget carrier for his weekly flight. He simply waits for the Optimum$ to accrue to a minimum $50 before he uses it to offset next month’s bill. Here is a screenshot of how Heartland Boy redeemed 150 Optimum$ to directly offset $150 from his ANZ credit card bill.

Therefore, it will be wise to apply for the ANZ Optimum MasterCard if you are a heavy user of a particular expenditure category.

2. Citibank SMRT Card

Stripped of a chauffeur when in Singapore, Heartland Boy takes public transport to get around the island. He uses the Citibank SMRT Card as his EZ-Link Card to pay for bus and MRT rides. This is extremely convenient as the Citibank SMRT Card has an automatic reload function. This means that whenever the EZ-Link credit runs out, the Citibank SMRT Card will automatically reload by your pre-determined amount. This amount is then reflected as part of your monthly credit card bill. Ever since he applied for this card, Heartland Boy no longer has to worry about long queues at the machines to top up his EZ-Link Card. Moreover, there is a 2% SMRT$ rebate whenever there is an EZ-Link auto reload. SMRT$ can be accumulated to exchange for useful merchant vouchers at Shaw Theatres, Watsons, Sheng Siong etc.

Since getting married, groceries have become a bigger household expenditure. Thankfully, the Citibank SMRT Card is big on Groceries as it offers 5% SMRT$ at Fairprice, Giant and Sheng Siong. These cashback are significant savings for the Heartland household since every dollar counts.

Because SingSaver does not discriminate, even singles can capitalise on this promotion!

To apply for any of the 6 credit cards curated for this Valentine’s Day, simply complete the following steps online at SingSaver:

  1. Click on the credit card that you would like to apply though this link
  2. At the end of your application process, take a screen shot of the Thank You Page. This captures your unique reference number.
  3. Complete the form embedded in the link above before 28 February 2017 to enjoy the free vouchers!

To increase the romance by a few notches, simply use the NTUC vouchers to purchase some quality ingredients and whip up an unforgettable candlelight dinner. Just don’t be so dumb to give the vouchers directly to the girl on Valentine’s Day!
