On 1 December 2018, the Heartland Family celebrated Liew Yan Olympia’s baby shower at the Resident’s Lounge of Ascott Orchard Singapore. It was truly a joyous occasion which quickly put to bed painful memories such as her recent hospitalisation for fever.
To better manage the crowd, Heartland Boy decided to split the full month celebration into 2 sessions. Lunch session was attended by immediate family members while dinner session was for friends and colleagues. This gave the nervous first-time parents more time to interact with guests. This also meant that almost every guest enjoyed some form of personal moments with Olympia as shown in these photos.
Relatives also walked away with traditional cakes and red eggs from Choz. Heartland Boy purchased from Choz not because of the massive celebrities’ endorsement (never believe in those things) but because the shop is literally below his in-law’s HDB flat. This meant that he could self-collect the pastries and save on $20 delivery fees. He also liked the fact that he could customise the selection of pastries to put in the gift box. The gift box also comes with custom baby cards that featured Olympia’s photo! The baby card makes for a perfect giveaway to guests who could not attend the baby shower. As Choz was running a promotion in November, Heartland Boy enjoyed 10% discount on his orders!
In the evening, the atmosphere was more relaxed and boisterous as many friends brought along their children for the full-month celebration. Olympia was very fortunate to be able to increase her social network exponentially in one setting. (Didn’t they say that it’s not who you know but who knows you that truly matters?)
With regards to food, Heartland Boy deliberately went for two distinct themes to differentiate the two sessions. Heartland Boy engaged Manna Pot Catering when he learnt that it provides food catering for baby shower and birthday celebrations as well. Readers who quote Heartland Boy during your order enjoy free decoration (Pink or Blue Theme with teddy bear and florals with a bunting) for your baby shower event too!
The baby shower ended with a staycation for the family at Ascott Orchard Singapore. A Serviced Apartment was a fantastic choice as it comes with a full-sized kitchen. It came in very handy as Heartland Boy could heat up the leftovers from the catering for their lunch the next day. A bit cheapskate but Heartland Boy does not like to waste food.
The homely environment of a Serviced Apartment also allowed the family to relax after a very exhausting day celebrating Olympia’s baby shower. Judging from her wide grin, clearly baby Olympia had very quickly learnt to acquire the high taste of staying in a posh environment. It’s also probably the gifts and angbaos (deposited into her MediSave) which she received!
Heartland Boy told Olympia to enjoy this moment as staying in Orchard Road does not go hand-in-hand with Daddy’s plans of early financial independence. Also, staying in Orchard Road was thankfully not one of the 10 promises they have made to her as first-time parents.
Happy 1 mth..
