Banking & Insurance Credit Card

DBS yuu credit card offers 18% cash rebate for groceries and $350 in welcome gifts

dbs-yuu-card-cash-rebate-welcome-giftGrocery shoppers who don’t live near a FairPrice outlet have been casting envious glances at those who can earn up to 21% cash rebates when paying with a Trust Credit/Debit Card. Thankfully, the end is nigh for such jealousy, especially if are one of those who live near a Giant, Cold Storage or CS Fresh outlet. DBS yuu Credit Card has recently upsized its offering to offer 18% cash rebates on participating yuu merchants. This spells good news for those who regularly purchase their groceries and household essentials at Giant, Cold Storage and Guardian etc. On top of this limited-time promotion, DBS is throwing in welcome gifts of $350 and $120 for new to bank and existing customers respectively. Here is my review of the DBS yuu Credit Card and it is easy to understand why I have applied for one as well.

What is the DBS yuu Credit Card?

The DBS yuu credit card accelerates rewards earnt on the yuu Rewards Club. Specifically, it provides an accelerated earn rate of 5% cash rebates at all yuu merchants. Participating merchants include brands from DFI Retail Group, Breadtalk Group, Mandai Wildlife Group and Singtel as shown in Diagram 1.

Note that cardholder needs to link his/her DBS yuu card to the yuu mobile app, scan and pay to ensure that the cash rebates are credited into the yuu app. Another interesting point is that PAssion members can also join the yuu Rewards club to earn yuu Points.

With this launch, the DBS yuu card has also officially replaced the DBS Black Card. I personally have the POSB Everyday card as I get 7% cashback on my groceries at Sheng Shiong without having to meet any minimum spend.

Cardholders who apply for the DBS yuu card can choose between the Visa or AMEX payment network. Different cash rewards apply as well.

How does DBS yuu Card Offer 18% Cash Rebate?

1) In order to earn and redeem your cash rebates (issued in the form of yuu Points), do start by downloading the yuu mobile app from the Google play store or Apple store.

2) Once you have registered for a yuu Rewards Club account, link your newly issued DBS yuu Credit card on your yuu app. Tap on the DBS icon > Link Account > Link DBS Card > Link card via Digibank > Continue to complete the linkage.

With these one-off efforts done and dusted, you are now all set to start earning 18% cash rebates at participating yuu merchants. Do note that the next 2 steps must be done whenever you are checking out at participating yuu merchants to ensure that you do not lose out on this key benefit.

3) Open up your yuu mobile app and scan your yuu ID when shopping at yuu merchants.

4) Track and redeem your yuu points on the yuu app

Your yuu points, whether they are base or bonus points, will be tracked on your yuu app. Diagram 4 is an illustration of how a cardholder can earn up to 18% cash rebates at participating yuu merchants.

Firstly, as the name suggests, base points is a permanent feature that yuu card cardholder is entitled to. Simply spend at any of the yuu merchants to enjoy 5% cashback with no minimum spend required. There is also no cap on how much base cash rebates a cardholder can earn.

If a monthly spend of $600 is met, an additional 13% bonus cash rebates will be awarded for transactions performed at yuu merchants. The aggregate of 5% (base) and 13% (bonus) gives the sum of 18% cash rebates. 3 things to note:

  • Provided a monthly spend of $600 is met, bonus cash rebates are capped at $78 per calendar month.
  • Bonus cash rebate is a limited time promotion that runs till 30 Sep 2023.
  • As the worked example in Diagram 4 has shown, this $600 qualified spend need not be entirely spent at yuu merchants. However, any spend that falls outside of yuu merchants earns a meagre 0.5% cash rebate.

Based on research, transactions incurred online at Giant, Cold Storage or Guardian via the Cart app should also qualify for bonus cash rebate as long as the account is linked to the yuu ID. That should help any cardmember to accumulate the $600 monthly spend.

Promotion for both NEW And Existing DBS/POSB Cardmembers

Diagram 5: Welcome gifts for new to bank and existing bank customers

As aforementioned, besides upsizing the cash rebate to 18% from 5%, attractive cash rewards are offered to readers who sign up for the DBS yuu card as shown in Diagram 5. If one applies for the DBS yuu AMEX Card, new cardmembers receive $350 cash while existing members receive S$120. If the Visa card is chosen, the cashback reward is reduced to $300 and $80 respectively.

New cardmembers are defined as customers who are currently not holding on to any Principal DBS/POSB Credit Card and have not cancelled any Principal DBS/POSB Credit Card within the last 12 months.

To receive this cash reward, take note that you must apply with the promo code DBSYUU before 6 June and have your card approved by 20 June. Thereafter, charge a minimum qualifying spend of $350 within the 1st 30 days from the date of Card approval. Based on the terms and conditions, the qualifying spend includes the usual exclusions such as payments to government institutions, hospitals, insurance companies as shown in Diagram 6. Note that it need not be restricted to the companies that qualify for the Rewards.

The welcome gift, whether it is S$350, $300 ,$120 or $80 will be credited to the Card account within 2 to 3 months from meeting the minimum qualifying spend.

Who Can Apply for the DBS Yuu Credit Card?

People who meet the following conditions listed in Diagram 7 can apply for this fantastic promotion.

The annual fee of S$194.40 is also waived in the first year. Thereafter, do apply on the digibot for a waiver.

How To Apply for the DBS yuu Card?

After my own experience applying for the DBS yuu Card, I am able to demonstrate the step-by-step guide on how to apply for the DBS yuu Card if you want to take advantage of 18% cash rebates.

Step 2: Choose either the AMEX Card or the Visa Card. Note the difference in welcome gifts.

For those who desire a higher cash gift, go for the AMEX Card. However, do take note that the Visa is a more widely accepted gateway payment than AMEX so this ensures that you will never miss out on earning yuu points. For instance, I understand that CART currently does not accept AMEX gateway payment yet.

Step 3: For a fuss-free way of populating your personal information, allow DBS to access your information via MyInfo or DBS digibank Online as shown in Diagram 8.

Step 4: Wait for your card application outcome- mine was literally approved in seconds! Thereafter, set a PIN to activate your credit card and you can start using it for online payments without waiting for the physical card to arrive into your mailbox.

That sums up how to apply, link, scan, earn and redeem yuu Points with the DBS yuu card. With this, you should be looking at 18% or 21% cash rebates in your grocery spend at DFI or FairPrice outlets.
